Canadian Deep Muscle Massage was developed in the 1980's by a
team of wellness and massage experts in the Washington DC area,
modeled after the teachings of Therese Pfrimmer, a Canadian massage
therapist and nurse in the 1940's, as a firm yet focused and thorough
treatment for muscle pain and problems.
The main difference in techniques is the use of cross-fiber strokes,
unrolling and unraveling the muscle fibers to increase circulation,
thereby reducing pain.
All efforts are concentrated on one muscle or muscle group at a time,
rather than the whole body. That muscle gets all the attention required.
The most important muscle is the one that hurts!

How can Canadian Deep Muscle Massage help you?
1. Relaxation is very important for best results. Special cushions were developed to
take pressure off the neck and spine, as well as hips and feet. Music, candles and
aromatherapy further enhance this process.

2.
Warming the muscles and massaging " across the fibers" enables the practitioner
to unravel the tight muscle fibers more effectively and efficiently than therapies of
other massage styles.

3.
Light stretching of the spine opens the spaces between the vertebrae and discs,
and relaxes the spinal muscles and nerve connections. This also lengthens the spinal
column.

4.
Detailed muscle work starts after the previous points have been addressed.

5. Canadian deep muscle massages are
tailored to the needs of the client. Designed
to work with appropriate pressure on the area treated, we do not take the touch to the
point of creating additional discomfort to the client.

6.
Lymphatic drainage and stomach massage can be incorporated into any
session, to stimulate the digestive tract, boost the immune system, and restore blood
flow to vital organs and systems.

7. We also address
after-massage care. Drinking lots of water after a massage helps
flush out toxins that have  been released in the body. Muscular soreness may occur
on occasion as the muscles receive " passive" exercise during the massage. This is a
natural reaction of the body; this soreness can be relieved with a hot soak, about
15-20 minutes in a hot bathtub or hottub/jaccuzzi.
